HELPING young women FEEL COMFORTABLE AND CONFIDENT IN THEIR MINDS & BODIES
through mind-body practices
In a time of so much uncertainty, we want to provide a space for our teen community to connect, make new friends, and learn mind-body techniques they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Bold Heart Yoga is an out-of-school-time program for middle school young women (grades 6-8) to build a healthy sense of self, community, and belonging through yoga and art.
Yoga provides the tools to enable young women to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies and minds. Developed by mental health and mind-body practitioners, our curriculum is well supported by research. We provide practical self-care techniques for emotional well-being during these critical years of psychological and physical change in an all-girl space.
Expressive arts, like movement, journaling, guided discussion, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques are used to support this work and empower young women with tools they can use during everyday situations at school, with family members and with friends.
Your daughter will learn to:
- Set positive goals
- Increase their focus
- Improve grades
- Increase confidence
- Decrease depression and anxiety
- Create a positive peer group
Bold Heart Yoga provides all the tools you need to successfully participate in Bold Heart Yoga, including a mat, art supplies, journals and other props.
Bold Heart Yoga facilitators are committed to empowering young women to understand and trust their bodies and learn how to listen to their hearts. These young women learn valuable lessons they can apply on and off of their yoga mat.
Our classes are taught by positive, inspiring and specially-trained adult facilitators to teach middle school girls about goal-setting, problem-solving and communication. We teach a flowing style yoga class which allows students to orchestrate breath and movement. We find this approach relaxes the mind and allows participants to focus on being in their bodies. We teach from a place of non-judgment and compassion.
Facilitators begin each class with group introductions and a daily theme related to building self-confidence, self-trust, cultivating a positive mental attitude, healthy relationships, dealing with stress, goal exploration and exercising. Classes end with guided relaxation. We’ve built in plenty of time for questions and dialogue with their peers and facilitators.
Testimonials
The first day I stepped into my Bold Heart Yoga class was an eye-opener, to say the least.
Yoga to an average person might just seem like doing funny positions and inhaling and exhaling, but it's more than that. It's literally a way of life. You can incorporate yoga into everything and Bold Heart Yoga, taught me that.
It taught me breathing exercises, ways to de-stress at home, and how to get in touch with myself. I would leave the session with a completely different energy than I had entered with and I loved it.
I made new friends, people I wouldn't even have the confidence to speak to outside of the session. They opened up to me and I opened up to them so naturally.
Taking Bold Heart Yoga has allowed me to appreciate and be in touch with myself and that's all I could ever ask for.

This week at Bold Heart Yoga we learned about self-care and self-love. If you are able to nourish yourself then you are better prepared to give to others in the same way.
We took turns practicing on each other which left us all feeling refreshed and nourished because we were able to experience the give to self-give to other cycle all in a short time period. This was helpful, and as cheesy as it sounds I think its a skill i will use a lot in my life.
In yoga, your hands are very important. Not only are they a foundation but they are also a reflection of the heart, so it is important to not only symbolically but also physically take care of your hands are be mindful of them. That night, I massaged my own hands as I recalled the skills that I had learned in yoga class.
